Delaware Weatherization Assistance Program

Mr. Jack Solchurch, Delaware Weatherization Assistance Program

The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is a free service that is designed to reduce energy costs for low-income families by improving the energy efficiency of their home.  Grant funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Energy and state sources to administer the program.  WAP operates throughout the year and is a statewide program.  It is administered by local agencies working under contract to the State Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), Division of Energy and climate.   The process starts with an energy audit conducted by a trained professional. The auditor will diagnose and prescribe one or more of the below:

What WAP does: sealing, caulking, glazing, weather-stripping and crack patching – also replacement of broken glass, wall and floor insulation and ventilation, seal heating and cooling ducts, insulation of hot water heaters and hot and cold water pipes, and other items recommended by the auditor.

There is an application process (WAP is for home owners only) and eligibility guidelines according to income status. The work will begin on the home within a two-week period after application process is complete. Please share this information with your congregations. Contact the Neighborhood House, Inc. (302) 778-6505, and Sharon Stokes has brochures at the IMAC Office if anyone needs additional or original copies.
